About the New Sanctuary Coalition:
For over 18 years, the New Sanctuary Coalition has been led by and for immigrants to stop the inhumane system of deportations and detentions in this country. Our small and scrappy team works with an army of over 500 volunteers to provide person-to-person support to many hundreds of immigrants — the people we call “Friends,” not clients — facing detention and deportation.

New Sanctuary springs from New York’s faith-based and social justice communities and forms a unique family of citizens and immigrants, bound by a love of humanity and mutual respect. Operating for a decade on less-than-shoestring budgets, New Sanctuary has helped thousands families. With the help of our donors and volunteers, our work expands as we continue to win victories with and for people facing deportation.

As of right now, New Sanctuary organizes teams of volunteers going into New York City’s immigration court nearly every weekday to support respondents, provide critical information, offer moral support, and act as witness to the government’s abuses. Our weekly Pro Se Clinic helps hundreds of Friends with paperwork. Our weekly Jericho Walk is a prayerful demonstration at Federal Plaza, uniting people of faith and conscience to make a powerful, spiritual statement. And we are working with families \to obtain pardons and help loved ones in detention, often succeeding against the odds to help our community members win their freedom.
